Running

The Long Run! What’s Next ?

My heart is full of accomplishment and happiness when I think about my spring race season.

I conquered my fears by finally attempting to run Around the Bay!

I kept to my roots by running the Mississauga Half.

I became a two time marathoner after completing the Ottawa Marathon, one of the best race experiences I’ve ever had.

And I capped it off with the Barrie half where I truly had to push myself and commit to a challenge rain or shine ! (Oh there was rain!!)

If you are thinking about next spring- I recommend every single one of these races ! My top recommendation would be ATB. Getting a 30k run in so early in the season really motivated me for a strong spring. Getting that race checked off the list felt so so so GOOD !

So what’s next ?

I’m having a hard time telling you that.

I know I’ll run the Oakville Half in September – I’m always in for that ! Smaller race, beautiful route, lots of swag and very well executed.

When it comes to another full I really don’t know what I want. Nothing is screaming at me to be honest.

When I committed to Ottawa I honestly couldn’t get the thought of it out of my head. As soon as I saw those race shirts I had to sign up.

But right now, nothing is driving me to register for another full.

Maybe I’ll change my mind !

I’m still running. But now I run for fun.

I run becasue the weather is nice or becasue I want to try a new route.

Don’t get me wrong I like marathon training, but running with no pressure, no stress, no plan… ahhh it’s a beautiful thing !

I’m running becasue I simply love running.

I’m also dedicating more time at the gym, getting stronger!

If you are reading this and you have a fall race idea for me- let me know ! Comment below.

  1. For something different: Sticks and Stones, a trail race, distances up to 50 km on a 5 trail loop. The trail race scene is cool! Google it!

  2. Rachel, we can either do this the hard way, or the easy way. We did Ottawa the hard way, where I had to peer pressure you for months and recruit other Twitter friends to join my crusade in getting you to come to Ottawa. As you said yourself, best race experience ever. So why are you doubting me?
You know what to do (even if it’s the half). Let’s not make this harder than it has to be ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Haha! Well Ottawa was in my brain for a long while before the peer pressure began!! Detroit is certainly an option, just less appealing since I’ve ran it before. But if some co workers decide we should do it, ill be there no doubt! Haha… you always put up a good fight Jeph !!
