A Premiere Nomination

I just had the greatest night !

The Higher Education Summit took place in Toronto at the Sheraton Centre & I was fortunate enough to be recognized by Conestoga College as notable alumni.

The college nominated me for a Premieres Award under the “recent grad” category and it was quite an honour to be a part of this night.

Essentially all the colleges across Ontario have the ability to nominate their students for these awards . There are six categories:

Business

Community Services

Creative Arts

Health Sciences

Recent Graduate

Technology

The talent that is produced by Ontario Colleges is outstanding ! Some of the winners really proved that Canadians are powerful worldwide & we produce extremely successful people!

There were 18 other nominees in my category & I did not walk away with a win, but just being nominated was fantastic. It was extra special to bring my mom as my date. She had always been the most encouraging role model for me. She always knew I could chase my dreams and become a broadcaster. I know I got my drive & motivation all from this wonderful lady! So to have her there was the perfect fit !

It felt like the Grammys; with the nominations broadcasted big on screen, the anticipation as the audience waited for the announcement of the winner. Really superb job by all who organized.

Part of my nomination with Conestoga featured the work that I do with students- college & high school. I love teaching about the broadcast industry, career planning and motivation! Giving back has always been something I’ve made a point to fit into my schedule.

Running was also a big topic for me. The promotion of healthy living, encouraging others and conquering marathons ! It was a really unique process being interviewed for the award. My management at The Weather Network was involved as well.

So thankful to Conestoga College for the nomination and so glad I was able to share this special memory with my mom!
